The Mitsubishi Lancer is a Japanese passenger car, initially a lower middle class, and currently a middle class car, produced by the Mitsubishi Motors concern. The car was first presented to the general public in 1972 during the Tokyo Motor Show. Its production started a year later and is still ongoing for the Taiwanese and Chinese markets. During this period, it was carried out in several cities around the world, including Kurashiki in Japan, Normal in the USA and Taoyuan in Taiwan. The Lancer model was developed and put into production in order to expand the Mitsubishi Motors concern’s commercial offer, as well as to fill the gap in this offer, which appeared between the Minica model (a kai-car type car intended for the Japanese market) and the Galant models, i.e. a middle and upper middle class car. The car was quite successful and from the very beginning became famous for its considerable reliability. The reputation of this model was further increased by the 1600GSR version, which in the 1970s achieved numerous successes in car rallies. It is worth adding that the next versions of the Lancer continued this glorious tradition started by the 1600GSR version. All this made the management of Mitsubishi Motors decide to continue production and improvement of this model. The last, 8th generation, of the Lancer model was presented in 2007 and was produced until 2016.
