Build the Tamiya Volkswagen Beetle 1966 in 1:24 scale with this car model kit. Glue and paint are required for assembly and finishing.
This Tamiya model kit recreates the classic 1966 VW 1300 Beetle. Even in this age of sophistication, the popularity of the Volkswagen “Beetle” has not diminished. The original design dates back to the 1930’s when Dr. Ferdinand Porsche provided the design framework for the “People’s Car.”

The paints below follow the kit’s box recommendations. Choose only what you need—you can use alternatives and remove unwanted bundle paints at checkout.
For car bodies and motorcycle panels, we recommend a spray can in the main colour for the best finish. One can is enough for one kit.
We list Tamiya paints for Tamiya kits and Mr Hobby paint codes for other brands. Primers and clear coats are also available in our paint section.
To find colour matches between paint brands, use our Paint Converter.
We have tools for every budget, all available in our Tools section. For first-time builders and gift-givers, the products below are a practical way to get started. We especially recommend the Kit Building Bundle for beginners, as you only need this and your chosen paint colours to build a kit.
Although there is an initial outlay, these tools will last for many future builds and make model building more enjoyable. As with most things in life, having the right tools for the job produces better results. For higher-end tools, explore our Mr Hobby ranges.
If you build models regularly and value long-lasting tools and support products that help achieve the best possible finish, we have a wide range of quality items from Mr Hobby and Tamiya in our main menu. Here are some useful products to consider:
