Find a paint colour across brands
Choose the paint range you have and the range you want to compare it with. Enter a code or colour name to see saved references and clearly labelled suggestions.
Match candidates
How to read this: “Source listed” means the reference appears in the linked source. Amber standard-code candidates share a printed standard code; name suggestions use catalogue wording only. None are independently bench-tested by Kent Models. No result means no reference or useful name suggestion was found, not that the paints cannot be close. Paint names, finish, chemistry and colour-standard revisions matter. Screen colours are not a substitute for physical swatches.
How to compare model paint colours between brands
Looking for a model paint conversion chart or trying to find an equivalent paint in another range? Use the finder above to compare a paint code or colour name across hobby paint manufacturers. Select the range you own, choose the range you want to compare, then enter the code. The search accepts common differences in spacing, hyphens and punctuation.
The catalogue covers ranges from AK Interactive, AMMO, Humbrol, Mr Hobby, Mr Color, Mr Paint (MRP), Revell, Scale Modellers Supply (SMS), Tamiya and Vallejo. It also includes colour standards such as RAL, BS 381C, Federal Standard and ANA where available. Choose the specific paint range as well as the brand: acrylics, lacquers, enamels and spray paints can have different codes and properties.
How to use the paint conversion chart
- Select the manufacturer and paint range for the colour you have.
- Select the manufacturer and range you want to compare it with.
- Enter a paint code, with or without spaces or punctuation, or search by colour name.
- Review the result labels and source notes before choosing a paint.
Results distinguish published references from suggestions generated from shared colour names or standard callouts. A suggested match is a research lead, not a tested equivalence. Paint formulas, finish, opacity and appearance can vary between brands and product types. For important colour matches, check the manufacturer’s instructions and compare a physical swatch.

Model paint conversion questions
What is a model paint conversion chart?
A paint conversion chart helps you look up a comparable colour code in another manufacturer’s range when a kit instruction or paint list specifies a brand you do not have.
Are cross-brand paint matches exact?
No. A cross-reference can identify a published equivalent or a promising colour candidate, but different paint formulas and finishes may look different when applied. Always check the evidence label and test the paint when accuracy matters.
Can I convert a paint code if I do not know the full format?
Usually. Enter the code with or without spaces, hyphens or other punctuation. The finder also accepts a unique leading-zero variation and can search catalogue colour names.
Does the finder compare different paint types?
It can compare listed ranges across brands, including acrylic, lacquer, enamel and spray ranges. A similar colour does not mean the products share the same chemistry or application instructions; follow the guidance for the specific paint.
