The Jaguar XJR-9 is a British racing car that made its track debut at the Daytona 24 Hours race in 1988. The car was put up for races mainly in the years 1988-1989. Its chief designer was Tony Southgate. The vehicle was powered by a single Jaguar 12-cylinder engine with a displacement of 7 liters. The XJR-9 was developed as an evolution of the previous Jaguar racing car, the XJR-8. Both cars did not differ significantly from each other. The main changes concerned the improvement of the aerodynamic properties and the shape of the spoilers. It was assumed that the new car would compete in the so-called Group C and in the Camel GTP series. The biggest success of the XJR-9, however, was its victory in the 1988 Le Mans 24 Hours. It was the first victory of this race for the Jaguar team since 1957! As an interesting fact, one of the XJR-9s won the Legend Race at Le Mans in 2010.
