The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) has run top-notch races since 1958. In touring car races, vehicles are tested as much on endurance and handling as simple speed-making them some of the most demanding races in the world. Overall, the race has been dominated by British drivers, but in 1983 the German BMW 318i driven by Joachim Winkelhock came through as the winner.
